Jasper National Park Fire Evacuation

Jasper National Park Fire Evacuation

Evacuation Zones

Jasper has been divided into several evacuation zones. Know which zone you live in and which zone your children attend school in. An evacuation order means residents must leave the area immediately. An evacuation alert means residents should be prepared to leave at a moment's notice.

How to Make an Emergency Plan

* Decide where you will go if you need to evacuate. * Choose a meeting place outside of the evacuation zone where you can reunite with family members. * Identify multiple evacuation routes. * Keep important documents, medications, and valuables in a waterproof bag that you can easily carry.

How to Build an Emergency Kit

* Include non-perishable food and water for at least three days. * Pack a first-aid kit, flashlight, and batteries. * Include a whistle or other noisemaker to signal for help. * Bring a change of clothes and sturdy shoes. * Pack a blanket or sleeping bag for each person. * Include a battery-powered radio to stay informed about the situation.

Be Prepared

* Pick up an Evacuation Guide from the Jasper Municipal Building or Jasper Public Library. * Attend an evacuation drill. * Talk to your family about evacuation plans and practice them regularly.

Jasper National Park Fire Update

Jasper National Park monitored the Utopia wildfire throughout the night with satellite infrared imaging. On Saturday, ground crews will be able to assess the situation and begin fighting the fire. The wildfire on Chetamon Mountain in Jasper National Park is estimated to cover an area of around 5500 hectares, Parks Canada said. Jasper and Hinton have been hosting fire evacuees from Yellowhead County, but Saturday Jasper urged those people to stock up on fuel.
