Boeing Charleston Airport Extends Land Purchase Option For 787 Plant

Boeing Charleston Airport Extends Land Purchase Option for 787 Plant

Charleston, South Carolina Facility Continues Dreamliner Production

FAA Orders 787 Deliveries, Facility Awaits Land Purchase Completion

Boeing South Carolina, the home of the 787 Dreamliner, has been granted a ten-year extension to purchase land under its SC 787 plant. The extension, announced on Thursday, will allow Boeing to continue its full cycle of 787 Dreamliner production, from freezer to flight.

The Charleston Airport Authority approved the extension, which will give Boeing until 2033 to exercise its option to purchase the land. The company currently leases the land from the airport.

Boeing South Carolina is an airplane assembly facility built by Boeing in North Charleston, South Carolina. Located on the grounds of the joint-use Charleston Air Force Base, the facility employs over 7,000 people and is responsible for the production of the 787 Dreamliner.

On the same day the extension was approved, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered the delivery of 787s that have been parked at the Charleston facility awaiting delivery. The FAA's order will help to clear the backlog of undelivered 787s and allow Boeing to meet its production targets.
