FIFA President Sepp Blatter's Press Conference Interrupted by Protester

Blatter's Press Conference Halted by Protestor Throwing Money

Protestor Disrupts FIFA President's News Conference

ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) — FIFA President Sepp Blatter's news conference was disrupted Monday by a protester who threw money at him and shouted "This is for North Korea 2026!" before being removed by security.

The incident occurred as Blatter was taking questions from reporters on the FIFA corruption scandal, which has led to the indictment of 14 high-ranking FIFA officials by the US Department of Justice on racketeering, bribery, and money laundering charges.

The protester, who was later identified as a 23-year-old British comedian named Simon Brodkin, threw a bundle of counterfeit US dollar bills at Blatter and shouted, "This is for North Korea 2026!"

Brodkin was immediately detained by security and removed from the press conference. Blatter appeared uninjured and continued the press conference after a brief delay.

The incident comes at a time when FIFA is facing intense scrutiny from around the world over the corruption scandal. Blatter, who has been FIFA president since 1998, has come under fire for his handling of the crisis.

FIFA has been accused of widespread corruption for years, but the recent indictments have brought the issue to a head. The US Department of Justice is investigating whether FIFA officials took bribes in exchange for votes in favor of Russia and Qatar to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, respectively.
